Helms, 76, formerly of 42 Church St., Cortland, passed away following lengthy illness on October 9, 2022 in the Groton Nursing Facility. John was born August 29, 1946, a son of the late Jack and Mary “Betty” McAuliff Helms.

She was born on January 12, 1931, the daughter of Arthur and Elsie Meyer. On June 28, 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald L. Hartzell at the Church of God, Reedsburg. The Barber Memorial Home, Inc. has been serving families of our community since 1930 when Ivan A. Barber began our funeral home in Johnson City, New York. In 1940 he purchased the present facility where the Barber family continues to serve the community. Currently, Kyla Barber DeBlock carries on the family business as the fourth generation.
